From Trial Order to 5,000 Units/Month: Our Magic Keyboard Customization Journey in Saudi Arabia

magic keyboard
In early 2025, our company came across an inquiry from a Saudi client, Ahmed, through online channels: "We are looking for wholesale Magic Keyboard compatible with iPad Air 11 1500pcs/ Air 13 inch 1500 pcs. Must support English + Arabic bilingual layout. Quantity: 3,000-5,000 pcs initially."
Ahmed is a mid‑sized local electronics distributor in Saudi Arabia, with offline retail presence in major cities like Riyadh and Jeddah, as well as a store on Amazon.sa.
Our sales team responded to the inquiry immediately, providing:
  1. Company profile and factory video, together with actual photos of the bilingual layout – close‑ups of keycap silk‑screening, overall layout, and backlight effect – to build trust visually.
  1. Specifications and certification documents (CE, FCC, etc.) for our existing Magic Keyboard products; a technical data sheet PDF including Bluetooth 5.0, trackpad compatibility, 500mAh battery, Type‑C charging port, 2‑3 hours for full charge, about 200 hours of working time (backlight off), and 100 days standby.
  1. Packaging: offered to customise the packaging box and provide an Arabic version of the quick guide free of charge.
A preliminary quotation (FOB Shenzhen) was also sent.
Ahmed replied the same day: "Very interested. Please send 2 samples for our quality check."

Sample Stage

  • Day 15: Two sets of black and white bilingual keyboards were sent via DHL and received by the client.
  • Day 20: Ahmed’s team began internal testing, focusing on:
  • Arabic input compatibility – clarity of Arabic character printing, and whether the Shift‑key switching logic suited Arabic writing habits.
  • Magnetic stability – the firmness of the connection between the iPad and the keyboard.
  • Trackpad sensitivity – multi‑touch gesture response.

First‑Round Feedback (Day 28) – 2 modification points

Ahmed’s team conducted a high‑temperature simulation test in Saudi Arabia – placing the keyboard in an environment mimicking summer inside a car (approx. 50‑55°C). The test revealed battery swelling and reduced trackpad sensitivity. This was a previously unknown issue for us – the extreme heat in the Middle East demands better thermal design and battery temperature tolerance.

Technical Rectification (Day 28‑38)

  • Replaced the battery supplier with a lithium battery offering a wider temperature range (‑20°C to 60°C).
  • Improved heat dissipation by adding thermal silicone pads inside the keyboard.
  • Adjusted the trackpad algorithm to optimise touch recognition under high‑temperature conditions.

Second‑Round Modifications – Client raised further details

  1. Keycap printing – the contrast of Arabic letters on dark keycaps was insufficient; the client requested switching from silk‑screening to laser engraving (+$0.35/pc cost increase, but enhanced product quality).
  1. Trackpad firmware – occasional disconnection occurred after a system update on the iPad Air 13 M3 (2025); required firmware upgrade from v2.1 to v2.3.
  1. Packaging inner lining upgrade – from EPE foam to custom EVA inserts to meet shock‑proof requirements for land transport from Dubai to Saudi.
During this coordination phase, we also noted several additional details:
  • Middle Eastern consumers prefer warm colours such as gold and white, so we offered a gold option to the client.
After re‑sending the revised samples to Saudi, Ahmed’s team re‑tested and confirmed all issues were resolved. Within 24 hours, we sent a detailed Sample Testing Guide PDF (in both English and Arabic), listing 12 test items. Ahmed commented: "This is the first time a supplier has given me a test checklist."
Throughout the modification period, we updated progress every 3 days, accompanied by factory production‑line photos.

Contract & Key Terms

  • Exclusive territorial rights – granted 12‑month exclusive agency for the UAE and Saudi markets (subject to an annual purchase volume of 50,000 pcs).
  • IP protection – the client provided AI source files for brand packaging; our factory was responsible only for printing and was not allowed to retain the design files.

Order Execution

  • Day 41 – Received 30% deposit and started production scheduling.
  • Day 45 – Pre‑production sealing sample was sent and signed off by the client.
  • Day 48 – First batch of 500 pcs came off the line; arranged third‑party inspection (SGS).
  • Day 50 – SGS inspection passed; AQL 2.5 standard with a defective rate of 1.2% (<2% acceptable).
  • Day 55 – First 1,500 pcs were fully packed.
  • Day 56 – Second batch of 1,500 pcs came off the line and underwent simultaneous inspection.
  • Day 58 – Entire batch of 3,000 pcs was packed and loaded.

Post‑Delivery Feedback

The client put the products on shelves within two weeks of receipt and reported very positive feedback, specifically:
  • The keyboard works properly under high temperatures.
  • The Arabic layout is accurate and well received by local users.
  • The gold colour sold better than the black version.

Long‑Term Cooperation

Within six months after the first order, we deepened our cooperation with the client, achieving stable monthly shipments of 4,000–5,000 pcs.
